CASSOPOLIS - The contest began on July 23 with Animal Af-fair and ended Aug. 6, the last day of the Cass County Fair.
One dime equaled one vote.
Ten dogs competed to win the crown of Bow Wow 2005 and six cats competed for the crown of Whiskers 2005.
Votes were cast, tallied and we are proud to announce the winners:
Daphne, a female Schnoodle who lives with Margaret Chiara in Lansing, won the Bow Wow contest, garnering 3,626.2 votes, raising $362.62.
Second place goes to Brutus, a male Rottweiler that lives with Lori Behnke.

Limpy, who lives with McKenna and Dana Williamson, took second place honors by receiving 3,832.5 votes, raising $383.52.
Proceeds from the 2005 Bow Wow and Whiskers contest totaled $1809.40.
Chiara, former Cass County prosecutor and current U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, was notified by phone with news of Daphne's win.
Barb Kietzer of Niles said of Friskie's win, "I'm very happy to hear Friskie won the 2005 Whiskers Contest. She carries on the tradition that began with Catsopolis Days and, in doing so, has helped the Cass County Animal Shelter help other less fortunate animals. I've always been an advocate for animal shelters and am happy to help in this cause."
All proceeds of the Bow Wow and Whiskers contest are deposited in the Animal Shelter Donation Fund.
The fund is used to help Cass County residents spay and neuter their animals, provide additional veterinary care for shelter animals and help promote the activities of the shelter.
Plaques will be presented to Daphne and Friskie.
