Dowagiac school starting Aug. 29

The first day of school for students attending Dowagiac Union Schools for the 2005-2006 school year is Monday, Aug. 29.
The first day will be a full day of school.
Transportation will be provided for all bus students except kindergarten and Young 5's.
Parents are responsible for kindergarten/Young 5's transportation on the first day only.
Dowagiac will be utilizing a new routing program this school year.
You will be receiving a post card in the mail indicating your students' routing information.
If you do not receive a post card, please call the transportation department at 782-4482 for the information.
Union High School

Registration for new students will be held Monday, Aug. 15, through Friday, Aug. 19.
Counselors will be available on Aug. 15 and 16 from 8 a.m, to 2:30 p.m.
Parents/guardians of new students must accompany student(s) to register and are asked to bring the student's birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card and a copy of the last report card.
High school freshmen orientation will be on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Any freshman who is unable to attend should contact the high school office at 782-4420.
Immediately following freshman orientation, there will be a meeting for all students planning to participate in athletic activities during the 2005-2006 school year.

Middle School

Registration will begin for new seventh and eighth grade students, Monday, Aug. 15.
The counseling office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.
Incoming seventh grade students and students who have not previously attended Central Middle School will receive their schedules during the student/parent orientation session Monday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the new middle school.
Returning eighth grade students will receive their schedules on Aug. 24 only.
Students' names that start with A-O may pick them up from 8 to noon, students whose names start with P - Z may pick up their schedules from 1-3 p.m.
Parents may call the school at 782-4440 if they have questions.

Registration of new students to the district will begin Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Questions can be directed to the office at 782-4450.
On the first day of school, students should gather on the playground.
After the bell rings, all fifth grade students will report to the media center.
Sixth grade students will report to the gym to receive their daily schedules.
Parents picking students up after school must do so only on Spruce Street.
There is no parking along the fence near the football field during school hours.
Cars parked along the fence may be ticketed.

All elementary building offices will be open beginning Wednesday, Aug. 10, and will accept new student registrations between the hours of 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Parents should bring the child's birth certificate, proof of immunization and Social Security number with them.
Parents who are unsure of the school their child will attend may call the district administrative offices at 782-4400 for assistance or the nearest school.
