CASSOPOLIS - The Cass County Council on Aging (COA) recently nominated Jack and Iva Burkett for the Michigan Community Service Commission Governor's Award, and they were awarded a Certificate of Recognition.
The Burketts of Edwardsburg are well known to everyone at the Cass County Council on Aging for their 17 years of driving for Meals on Wheels.
Their dedication to volunteering is so special, everyone who knows this energetic couple has a word of praise for them.
"The Burketts drive all year, through bad weather and good, through heat, cold, rain and snow," Glenn Barr, Food Service director at the COA said. "Even when they are sick, one of them delivers, while the other is home getting well."
Nothing stops them from delivering those meals to people in need.
Iva Burkett tells people, "Someday we might need this service" and that gives them the incentive to do the job.
Describing the Burketts, are words like "loving and friendly, " and that "they make this world a kinder place."
They have such compassion for the old. They are truly altruistic.
The COA recognizes such exceptional people as friends and volunteers and are proud that they received the Certificate of Recognition.
The COA center is located at 60525 Decatur Road, Cassopolis.
