FOP All-Stars on a winning streak

CASSOPOLIS - The Niles FOP 9-10 year-old All-Stars continued District 15 tournament play last night in Cassopolis.
Niles took a 15-5 win over Mattawan to keep them undefeated in the tournament.
Niles jumped to an early 1-0 lead after Ethan Zimmerman hit a shot to the fence and Derek Scott followed up with a double to score the first run.
Scott was the starting pitcher for FOP. Mattawan then scored four unanswered runs to lead 4-1.
The FOP All-Stars bats came alive in the third inning to tie up the game and then they went ahead for good in the fourth inning winning the game 15-5 in the fifth inning.
Zimmerman came in for relief in the third inning and shut down the Mattawan offense only allowing one run to score for the remainder of the game.
The Niles FOP All-Stars were led offensively by Zimmerman with two doubles and a single, Derek Scott with a double and two singles, Geordan Griffin and Alex Wright with two singles and Doug Freeman, Connor Glick and Maris Marazita each with a single.
The 9-10 year-old All-Stars continue district tournament play on Saturday with the single elimination playoffs beginning.
They will face Schoolcraft at 11 a.m. in Dowagiac.
The Niles FOP 11-12 year-old All-Stars will face either Mattawan or Coldwater at 1 p.m. in Mattawan.
The 11-12 year-old All-Stars won by forfeit Thursday evening against Hartford.
