Hoyt transferring to Naval Academy

While serving on the USS West Virginia, 1993 Dowagiac Union High School Class of 1993 graduate Lt. Thaddaeus Hoyt filled the following positions: Main Propulsion Assistant, Damage Control Assistant, Assistant Engineer, Quality Assurance Officer, Ships Diving Officer and Ships Drill Coordinator.
For the past year Lt. Hoyt has been ranked as the number-one Junior Officer of 12 onboard and was named Junior Officer of the Year for 2004.
During this tour, Lt. Hoyt received three Navy Achievement Medals for his professional achievements while standing Officer of the Deck for battle-stations missile ships control, coordination of SubSafe maintenance and testing of systems critical to ship's mission as Quality Assurance Officer, and for his training efforts while Ships Drill Coordinator. Prior to transferring, Lt. Hoyt received his submarine warfare gold dolphins and completed all qualifications to serve as an engineer on nuclear-powered submarines.
Lt. Hoyt transferred this month to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., for the next three years to pursue a master's degree in leadership and serve as a company officer.
He is the son of Richard and Corinne Hoyt of Dowagiac.
