NILES - The natural beauty of Southwest Michigan's Great Lakes will soon be showcased at the Niles District Library.
A new exhibit will be opening June 1 and run through June 23, in the Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery. Featured are the mixed media work of Susan Harman and photography of Kaye Janet. Their work captures the spirit of the dunes of Michiana.
Harman liked the beauty of the dunes and the surrounding areas and created small intimate pictures of mixed media on paper.
Janet's part of the show is a photographic collection entitled "Introduction to the Warren Dunes," taken on in March and September of 2004.
Janet grew up in land-locked central Illinois. The Mississippi River was the closest large body of water at over 90 miles away and the Great Lakes were over 200 miles away making them hard to visit.
Harman is an artist and fine arts teacher, most recently at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind. She has lived in the area for the past 15 years.
Janet is the reference librarian at the Niles District Library with an Masters of Library Science degree from Dominican University in Illinois. She currently lives in Niles with her husband and does photography as a hobby.
The Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery is located in the library's rotunda. Exhibitions can be viewed during regular library hours: Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday – Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
