Chieftains swept by Lancers

It was just one of those days according to Dowagiac coach Andy Kruger, who saw his team commit 11 errors in a doubleheader loss to visiting Lakeshore Tuesday afternoon.
Lakeshore defeated the Chieftains 12-2 and 17-2 in a Big 16 Conference West Division doubleheader at Rotary Park.
The Chieftains (9-15, 1-8 SMAC West) committed six errors in the opening game and then five errors in the nightcap.
Lakeshore built a 7-0 lead before Dowagiac scored twice in the fifth inning to account for its runs.
The Lancers had seven hits in the contest, while Dowagiac was held to three by Tyler Blosser.
Jesse Cox (3-4) took the loss as he worked three innings, allowing seven runs on two hits.
Scott Wilkinson worked the final four innings, allowing five runs on five hits.
Jamie Simpson tripled for one of the Chieftains' three hits. Jake Box and Brandon Simmons had the other two hits.
In the second game Jake Cox (3-2) allowed five runs on three hits before giving way to Simpson, who pitched five and two-third innings, allowing six runs on two hits.
Jordan Huey worked the final inning and a third, giving up six runs on four hits.
The Chieftains finished with six hits, led by David Stuppy who was 3-for-4. Simpson added a double.
Dowagiac will host Coldwater in a Big 16 Conference non-divisional game on Thursday before hosting the Bryan Frazier Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
Thursday's game begins at 4 p.m.
