Chieftains win pair

The Dowagiac varsity softball team improved to 17-4 on the season with a pair of 10-0, five inning victories over visiting Berrien Springs Thursday afternoon.
The Chieftains scored five run in the first inning of the opening game and two in the fourth and three more in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Ashley Willis (6-2) picked up the victory as she tossed a one-hitter with 10 strike outs and no walks.
Brittani Dillard took the loss for the Shamrocks.
Dowagiac had just hit six in the contest led by Amy Wood's 2-for-3 performance with an RBI.
Dowagiac also got a double and two RBIs from Brittney Reist, while Mandy Parish was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Kim Luthringer finished with a hit and an RBI.
In the nightcap the Chieftains scored five runs in the third and five runs in the fifth to complete the sweep.
Mo Pickar improved to 4-0 on the season with a two-hitter which included eight strike outs and no walks.
Megan Fecho took the loss for Berrien Springs, which dropped to 1-14 on the season.
Dowagiac finished with 14 hits in the nightcap led by Reist's 4-for-4 performance with a home run and two RBIs.
Lindsay Tyler went 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs, while Luthringer went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Dowagiac will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Niles in a Big 16 Conference West Division doubleheader. The first game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
