Dowagiac JV splits with Bears

The Dowagiac junior varsity baseball team split a pair of games with visiting St. Joseph Tuesday afternoon.
St. Joseph won the opening game 8-3 in six innings, while Dowagiac won the nightcap, 6-3.
Troy Stover took the loss in the first game for the Chieftains.
Adam Hess was 2-for-2 for the Chieftains, who also got hits from Tony Saviano, DJ Edgerly and Chris Primley.
In the second game, Matt Dodson (2-0) picked up the victory as he worked three innings, allowing one hit with three strike outs.
Kyle Prak was 3-for-3. Jacob Kling scored two runs, while Ryan Laylin singled and drove in two runs. Dodson, Edgerly and Hess all drove in a run.
Hess drove in the winning run with a sacrifice bunt as Kyle Bailey scored from second on an error. Hess also stole home on a missed squeeze bunt attempt.
Dowagiac is now 13-3 on the year.
The junior varsity softball team swept visiting St. Joseph 10-0 and 5-1.
Katie Roach (8-0) tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in picking up the victory.
Felicia Hood had a triple for the Chieftains, who also got two hits from Calie Daniels, Lori Key and Katie Hewitt.
In the nightcap, Key (5-2) allowed three hits with six strike outs in picking up the victory for the Chieftains.
Sara Ausra had a double for the Chieftains, while Daniels and Roach also had hits.
Dowagiac is now 13-2 on the season.
