The Michigan High School Athletic Association will get its day in court.
The circuit court that is.
The MHSAA announced Monday that the United States Supreme Court will hear its case.
The MHSAA has been in litigation over the switching of its sports season, primarily girls' basketball and volleyball, for the better part of a decade now.
The state and its member schools have said that it does not want to switch its seasons to come in line with all but one other state - Alaska.
On Friday the Supreme Court granted the MHSAA an appeal on its sports season case.
"Thousands of student-athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, officials, board of education members, sports media and fans of high school sports are breathing a sigh of relief that they will have another day in court," MHSAA executive director John E. "Jack" Roberts said in a prepared statement.
Dowagiac athletic director Greg Younger said he was pleased to hear the news so that he can continue preparations for the final season in the Big 16 Conference for the Chieftains.
It is unknown when the appeal will be heard.
