The Dowagiac junior varsity softball team edged visiting South Bend (Ind.) Riley, 10-8, in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon.
Katie Roach (4-0) picked up the victory as she allowed three hits with six strike outs and two walks.
Sara Ausra and Katie Hewitt both doubled for the Chieftains, who also got hits from Lori Key, Molly Seurynck, Roach and Beth Williams.
Dowagiac is now 6-1 on the season.
