NILES - SBC phone customers on the west side of Niles and in Buchanan experienced an outage of phone service on Monday morning.
According to Laura Gayler of SBC there was an equipment failure in a T-3 line between Niles and Buchanan causing the outage.
The outage occurred at about 7 a.m and effected an unknown number of SBC customers. Customers were unable to make outgoing phone calls, but were able to receive calls.
Gayler added that outages like this happen from time to time, and that their technician work around the clock everyday of the year to make sure that the customers receive the best service they can.
SBC serves millions of customers in Michigan and the failure in the line may not only have affected customers in the Niles area, but other phone providers service as well, because SBC owns and operates the phone lines in this area and throughout the state of Michigan.
