Seventh grade spikers reach semifinals

The Central Middle School seventh grade volleyball team took third place at the Coloma Invitational on Saturday.
Dowagiac went 6-0 in its pool and reached the semifinals before being defeated.
In pool play Dowagiac defeated South Haven 25-15 and 25-7, defeated Lake Michigan Catholic 25-17 and 25-14, and defeated St. Joseph 25-21 and 25-21.
Dowagiac tied Niles for the No. 1 seed in bracket play. A coin flip decided was won by Niles for the top seed.
Dowagiac faced St. Joseph in the quarterfinals, 25-19 and 25-20. The Chieftains then took on host Coloma in the semifinals, losing 14-25 and 16-25.
Scoring leaders in pool play were Tiffany Tyus with 18 points and Michele Dowsett with 13 points against Lake Michigan; Brooke Means with 14 points and Kalen Nickens with 12 points against Lake Michigan; and Means with 14 points and Nickens with nine points against St. Joseph.
Against St. Joseph in the quarterfinals, Nickens had 13 points and Means nine points.
Against Coloma in the semifinals, Cassie Stone had nine points and Means five points.
