Linda Keesler of Pokagon Township addressed Dowagiac City Council Monday night on crime in relation to Eagle's Wood and the proposed five-building, 40-apartment companion complex, Eagle's Trace, "since we all agree we have a water problem" that is being addressed.
Mayor Donald D. Lyons responded, "I'd like to point out that every neighborhood in town has issues, whether it's the street I live on, the street that any of the council people live on, an apartment complex, Burmax Park, whatever it may be.
Another concern she voiced related to drainage is mosquitoes and West Nile Virus.
The former landlord suggested the Ohio developer be required to return a small share of his profits to Dowagiac.
The mayor said the developer's PILOT, or 8-percent payment in lieu of taxes, constitutes his contribution to the city.
School board candidate Corinne Hoyt also appeared before the council and proposed "that in 2005 the new (middle school) facility be opened as a high school."
