Vandalia babysitter sentenced to 330 days in jail

CASSOPOLIS - Circuit Judge Michael E. Dodge on Friday sentenced a Vandalia man in a sex case.
Chad Richards, 27, of James Road, Vandalia, received 330 days jail and two years probation for attempted second-degree criminal sexual conduct against an 11-year-old girl at a Cassopolis location on March 15 where he was babysitting. He is to pay $1,050 in court costs.
In other Cass County Circuit Court sentencings on Jan. 28:
Annette West, 37, of 501 North Broadway, Niles, received 270 days in jail for writing a no-account check at Harding's Market in Cassopolis on Oct. 10. She is to pay $120 in court costs and restitution of $585.89.
Corey Brookins, 20, of 608 Spruce St., Dowagiac, received 365 days jail for larceny from two motor vehicles where he stole car stereos and compact discs on Aug. 15 on Sheldon Street, Dowagiac. He is to pay $120 in court costs.
James Whitaker, 25, of 209 E. Grove St., Mishawaka, Ind., got 240 days jail and two years probation for failing to pay child support for two children on July 7. He is to pay $920 court costs, a $960 probation fee and restitution of $24,251.51.
Anthony Sell, 19, of 59733 Decatur Road, Cassopolis, received 210 days jail and two years probation for larceny of $1,000 to $20,000 on Nov. 13 where he stole a fiberglas boat and trailer from the Mike Gerk residence on Lakeview Drive, Dowagiac. He is to pay a $960 probation fee, $920 court costs and restitution of $430.
William Perrin, 17, of 2330 Runkle Road, Niles, received 18 months probation and 100 hours of community service for attempted third-degree fleeing from police on Aug. 7 on U.S. 12, Niles. He is to pay a $720 probation fee and $920 in court costs.
Cary Forbes, 42, of 56825 County Road 23, Bristol, Ind., received 18 months probation and 60-day concurrent jail terms for possession with intent to deliver marijuana and possession of a firearm while under the influence of liquor on Oct. 28 on M-62, Edwardsburg. He is to pay a $900 probation fee and $570 in court costs.
A bench warrant was issued for Gurpreet Singh, 26, of 25830 Peavine St., Cassopolis, for failing to appear on convictions of assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearms on July 16, 2003.
