NILES - Michigan State Police troopers from the Niles Post are being credited with the arrest of a suspect in connection with numerous embezzlements from mortgage transactions in the Niles area.
On Dec. 27, troopers arrested Daniel P. Meachum, 44, of Paw Paw, for a Felony charge of Embezzlement greater than $20,000. Meachum turned himself in at the Niles Law Enforcement Complex and was subsequently arraigned in the South County Courthouse on the arrest warrant.
Trooper Mike McCarthy the lead investigator on the complaint identified three victims from the greater Niles area who had been defrauded of about $43,000.
Multiple search warrants of bank records revealed the suspect Meachum had allegedly misappropriated loan proceeds.
The suspect Dan Meachum was doing business with Your Mortgage Connection at 2232 S. 11th St., Niles.
