LANSING - Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced Wednesday that 67.5 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday's general election, setting a Michigan turnout record of more than 4.8 million.
Last week Land projected that 4.5 million voters would participate.
In Cass County, 62.84 percent of 36,463 registered voters cast ballots.
Land applauded Michigan election workers for their dedication and integrity during a long day at the polls.
Voter turnout figures will remain unofficial until certified by the Board of State Canvassers, which meets Nov. 22.
There were 7.16 million Michigan voters registered to participate in the Nov. 2 election.
The Secretary of State's Bureau of Elections will post official election returns when they are available on its Web site at www.Michigan.gov/sos.
