CASSOPOLIS - Love at first sight! Have you ever been kissed by a sea lion? If not, then you might want to check out the Sea Lion Splash show at the 153rd Cass County Fair.
Sponsored by Southwestern Michigan College, the exhibit is presented in a tropical setting with rocks, plam trees, waterfalls, foliage and two pools. Balancing, catching and retrieving objects, handstands, and singing are part of the show.
Surfer Joe, trainer and host, guarantees to keep you spellbound throughout the show. The sea lions are natural performers and often steal the show with their ad-libbing and unbridled mischief.
The idea of the sea lion show originated when touring company Squalus Inc. started taking in beached sea lions who could not be returned to the wild due to age or injuries and were unable to provide food for themselves.
SMC President Dr. David Mathews says, "For 51 weeks out of the year SMC is all about education. During Cass County Fair week we're also going to be about sea lions. We are proud and excited to be able to share a show of this caliber with the community."
Sea Lion Splash will be a free attraction at the Cass County Fair Aug. 2-7.
The attraction will feature three to four shows per day (depending on weather and other conditions).
Other free grounds entetainment at this year's fair includes Ken's Balloons and Magic, performing two balloon shows and two magic shows daily in the gazebo sponsored by Landmark Mortgage Group Inc. of South Bend, Ind.
Also featured all week will be John Kornowski's Chain Saw Wood Carving Show.
