City crews continue to follow up on recent storm damage.
Most activities involve continued brush pick-up and cleaning of storm drain inlets, which should continue for at least a couple of weeks.
When most of the brush is collected, City Manager William H. Nelson Jr. expects a large tub grinder will be rented to chip what has been deposited at the compost facility.
City officials have also been working with representatives of Cass County and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to work on possible disaster expense reimbursement.
At present, FEMA is preparing information for the state as it considers a disaster declaration.
Michigan then has the option of requesting federal assistance, which would involve a visit from FEMA to review documentation of costs related to Dowagiac's storm response and recovery.
All of these costs are being segregated and uniquely coded so that the city can explicitly document its costs if federal assistance is forthcoming.
