CASSOPOLIS -- Dan Bates, head of the Cassopolis Department of Public Works, reported a crack in a 12 inch pipe used to carry waste water to Dowagiac. Involved was a four foot long section at 25830 Peavine St., Bates said.
As necessary, Bates reported the leak to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. He is also required to notify the media.
In order to make necessary repairs he needed to bring in semi-tankers to shut down the nearby lift station to bypass the section which with the crack. The shut-down lasted about five hours, Bates said.
All repairs were completed by about 1 p.m. on Friday.
