DOWAGIAC -- A deputy sheriff and Big Buoys Toys owner Kent Clark received minor injuries early Sunday subduing a Marcellus man trying to break into Clark's business, Big Buoys Toys, to steal an Arctic Cat snowmobile.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office responded to an alarm at 5 a.m. Feb. 8 at 51575 M-51 North, Dowagiac.
The main building was secure.
Upon checking the secondary building with Clark, a male subject was found inside, attempting to steal the snowmobile, but he was not able to get it started.
He then tried to avoid being arrested by trying to run from the building while pushing through the investigating deputy, whom the sheriff did not identify. The male subject was ordered several times to stop, but did not. A struggle ensued between the suspect, the officer and the business owner until the subject could be apprehended and placed under arrest.
The Marcellus man was lodged in the Cass County Jail on several related charges, as well as methamphetamine possession.
Authorities withheld his name until he can be arraigned.
Dowagiac officers responded and assisted with this incident, which remains under investigation.
