NILES -- For the second week in a row, severe winter weather has put a halt to local high school sports events.
Last week, the Niles wrestling team was scheduled to host Dowagiac on Thursday night but that match was postponed due to the weather and rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Also last Friday night, Edwardsburg's game with Cass County rival Cassopolis was postponed due to poor weather.
That game will be made up on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Tuesday night, more events were put on hold because of snowfall and dangerous driving conditions.
Dowagiac's basketball game against visiting Portage Northern was postponed and will be made up on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The Edwardsburg basketball game with visiting New Buffalo was also postponed. No make up date has been set.
The Niles basketball teams were scheduled to host Battle Creek Lakeview in a Big 16 interdivisional matchup, but those contests have been moved to Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Brandywine's basketball teams were set to host Bridgman Tuesday night in Lakeland Conference play, but those games will now be played on Friday, Feb. 13.
Finally, the No. 5-ranked Buchanan varsity basketball team, along with its junior varsity and freshmen teams, were scheduled to host Cassopolis in a Lakeland Conference showdown. Those games will now be played Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Several schools will make up games yet this week.
In the Big 16, St. Joseph will host Mattawan tonight, while in the Lakeland Conference Berrien Springs will host Eau Claire in a non-league contest on Saturday.
Officially none of tonight's contests have been postponed or canceled, however, several schools, including Cassopolis have a no school, no play policy.
Those decisions will probably be made early this afternoon.
Dowagiac is scheduled to travel to Niles for volleyball, while Edwardsburg is set to host Brandywine in volleyball. The Eddies and Bobcats are also supposed to wrestle.
