Buchanan comeback stopped by Berrien

Buchanan evened the match at one game apiece, but then suffered two straight losses to Berrien Springs to take a Lakeland Conference loss Wednesday night.
The visiting Shamrocks won the first game 15-2, but the Bucks roared back for a 15-2 win of their own in the second match. Berrien then steadied itself and picked up a pair of 15-11 wins to seal the victory.
The win lifted the Shamrocks to 6-0-1 overall and 1-0 in league play while Buchanan slipped to 2-3-1 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
Rachelle Weldy led the Buchanan hitting attack with eight kills. Ashlee Layher added seven and Holly Tibbs helped out with six.
Layher also had eight digs, three blocks and five aces while Ali Bender recorded 23 assists and eight digs.
The Berrien Springs junior varsity beat Buchanan 16-14 and 15-11.
The Bucks travel to Stevensville Saturday to play in the Lakeshore Invitational which starts at 8:30 a.m.
Bobcats can't top Coloma
The Brandywine varsity volleyball team struggled in its Lakeland Conference season opener at Coloma Wednesday night, falling 15-12, 15-6 and 15-11 to the Comets.
Katie Tuohy had a strong outing for the Bobcats as she had a team-high 13 kills and also led the team in digs with 12. Emily Whitney added eight kills and 17 assists while Ashley Antus helped out with 11 digs. Nikki Cooper also had 10 digs.
Brandywine returns to action Saturday at the Lakeshore Invitational which starts at 8:30 a.m.
The Brandywine junior varsity beat Coloma 10-15, 15-12, 15-9.
