Nick Herrmann, a 2003 graduate of Niles High School, recently completed his first season as a member of the Ferris State University soccer team.
While soccer is not a varsity sport at Ferris, the team plays against squads from the University of Michigan, Indiana University, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
Herrmann, who starts as a defenseman, scored the winning penalty kick goal in overtime against Northern Michigan.
