O’Bryant seeking third state title

Jayme O'Bryant, Buchanan's own two-time State Punt, Pass &Kick Champion has once again qualified to compete for the 2003 State Championship title to be held at Detroit Lions Ford Field on Nov. 2 during halftime when the Lions play the Oakland Raiders.
This 12-year-old's journey began last September when she won the local competition in the 12 &13 year-old division sponsored by Buchanan Rocket Football and the Buchanan Area Recreation Board with a score of 256'8". She then won the sectional competition in Kalamazoo on October 11 with a score of 247'10". After Kalamazoo, the scores were compiled from all 17 sectional competitions in Michigan and the top five scores in each age division advance to the State competition. O'Bryant's score has ranked her in third place going into the competition.
O'Bryant is currently the 2002 State Champion for the 10 &11 year-old division and she was the 2000 State Champion for the 8 &9 year-old division. Jayme was ranked seventh Nationally last year out of 200,000 girls that competed.
O'Bryant is a seventh grader at the Buchanan Middle School. Along with preparing for the Punt, Pass &Kick competition, she plays on Buchanan's undefeated seventh grade girls basketball team and the Southwest Michigan Fuzion traveling softball team.
