Vikes take fourth at SMC

Cedar Springs and Plainwell won the boys' and girls' team titles on Saturday at the Edwardsburg Invitational held on the campus of Southwestern Michigan College.
Cedar Springs edged Sturgis by two points to win the boys' portion of the race, 41-43. Allegan finished third with 47 points, while Niles was fourth with 67 points and Coldwater fifth with 70 points.
Plainwell easily outdistanced runner-up Allegan, 24-45. Kalamazoo Hackett was third with 60 points and Paw Paw fourth with 62 points. Cedar Springs was fifth with 62.
Edwardsburg finished sixth in both final standings. Dowagiac was 10th in the boy's race. The Chieftains did not have a full girls' team on Saturday.
Niles was 10th in the girl's race.
Cassopolis and Brandywine also did not field full girls' teams. Brandywine and Cassopolis also did not have full boys' teams.
Dan Cramer of Cedar Springs was the winner in the boy's junior/senior race with a time of 16:28. Niles' Austin Nielson finished ninth in the junior/senior race with a time of 17:58.
Jay Billsborrow of Coldwater was the top freshman/sophomore runner with a time of 16:50. Brandywine's John Farrell finished fourth in the freshman/sophomore race with a time of 18:08.
Desi Allen of Allegan won the girl's junior/senior race with a time of 21:11. Katie Cramer of Cedar Springs was the top freshman/sophomore runner with a time of 20:58.
