St. Joseph eliminates Dowagiac from Division 2 baseball districts

COLOMA -- For four innings on Tuesday the Dowagiac varsity baseball team hung with district favorite St. Joseph.
Dowagiac (19-14) and St. Joseph were in a scoreless deadlock through the first three innings.
The Bears then scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Dowagiac let things get out of hand in the sixth inning as the Bears scored three times to secure a spot in Saturday's semifinals against Niles.
Dowagiac managed just four hits off of St. Joseph starter Ben Knuth, who struck out 14 and walked two.
Matt Stewart and Eddie Campbell both doubled, while Matthew Carlson and Landon Reed each had a single.
McIntyre scattered five hits while striking out three and walking two.
Davey Moran came on and finished up for the Chieftains.
St. Joseph and Niles will play at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to the finals at 4 p.m.
Lakeshore and Coloma will face each other at 1:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.
