Bobcats win title

Brandywine captured its own softball invitational championship on Saturday by sweeping Hartford and Temperance Bedford.
The Lady Bobcats (31-5) blanked Hartford in the opening game, 10-0, and then blanked Temperance Bedford in the title game, 5-0.
Temperance Bedford is now 25-6 on the year. Hartford is 24-6 on the season.
Nicki McGowen (29-4) was the winning pitcher in both contests.
McGowen tossed a one-hitter in the opening game with eight strikeouts and one walk. In the title tilt, McGowen tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts. She did not walk a batter against Temperance Bedford.
Brandywine scored four times in the first inning of both contests. The Lady Bobcats added single runs in the second and third innings against Hartford and then four times in the sixth to end the game due to the mercy rule.
After the four-run first inning against Temperance Bedford, Brandywine added a single run in the third inning.
Michelle Shoemaker singled and homered (5) to drive in a pair of runs for the Lady Bobcats, who finished with 11 hits against Hartford. Brandywine also got three singles, a triple and an RBI from Lauren Heyn and two singles and an RBI from Amanda Grice. Ashley Antus tripled and drove in a run for Brandywine as well.
In the second game the Lady Bobcats finished with six hits, including two singles and two RBIs from Grice.
Nakisha Washington (6) homered for the Lady Bobcats.
