Buchanan cruises to fourth straight regional title

The Buchanan tennis team easily won its fourth straight Division 4 Regional title Friday afternoon.
The Bucks won seven of the eight flights to score 31 points in the tournament. Parchment finished second with 20 points and Kalamazoo Christian finished third with 18.
Edwardsburg took fourth place with 14 points, LMC finished fifth with nine, Coloma finished sixth with five, Berrien Springs finished seventh with four, Brandywine and Eau Claire finished tied for eighth with two each and Cassopolis did not score.
The Bucks, ranked No. 1 in the state, will compete in the state finals at Kalamazoo College on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31.
Bryce Coward won the No. 1 singles flight for the Bucks with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Edwardsburg's Josh Rogers.
Buchanan's Ryan Evick beat Parchment's Brett Gornick 6-3, 7-5 to win the No. 2 singles title.
Sean Jesse of Buchanan beat Parchment's Ben Kievit 6-4, 6-2 to claim the No. 3 singles title.
A.J. Mottl beat Parchment's Alex Wolf 6-4, 6-1 to win the No. 4 singles title for the Bucks.
Buchanan's No. 1 doubles team of Brandon Schmeling and Chad VanLue beat Kalamazoo Christian's Jake Mulder and Jeff Groendyk 6-4, 6-1 to win that flight.
The Buchanan No. 2 doubles team of Alex Flood and Alex Gordon lost 6-1, 7-5 to John Wiita and Dave Ausema of Kalamazoo Christian in the finals.
Doug Summers and Mike Otwell beat Parchment's team in the finals of the No. 3 doubles flight.
Dan Summers and Korey Camp beat Parchment's Mike Draves and Nate Bonney 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 in the finals of the No. 4 doubles flight.
