Eddies improve record to 2-1

The Edwardsburg varsity baseball team improved its season record to 2-1 with a 12-6 win over Eau Claire in non-conference play.
The Eddies scored single runs in the first, second and fifth innings, scored twice in the third, fourth and seventh innings and three times in the sixth.
Eau Claire (0-3) scored a run in the first, three runs in the second and two runs in the fifth to account for its scoring.
Scott Mellen picked up the victory on the mound for the Eddies. Jeff Mortimer and Anthony Peak also took the mound for Edwardsburg.
The Eddies finished with 11 hits, led by John Muff, Jesse Johnson and Ben Horton, all of whom tripled. Zach Rooney had a pair of doubles for the Eddies.
Rooney finished with three RBIs and Johnson two RBIs.

Softball
The Edwardsburg varsity softball team split its season opening doubleheader with Eau Claire.
The Lady Eddies took the first game 6-4, but dropped the nightcap, 4-3.
Edwardsburg (1-1) banged out nine hits in the first game led by Samantha Fritsche who was 3-for-4 with a double. Jill Prisinski and Jenna Bowman were both 2-for-4. Jessica Simpson picked the victory. She allowed two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game, the Eddies finished with five hits. Shana Stoops was 2-for-3. Stoops took the mound loss despite allowing just three hits and one earned run in five innings of work. Stoops struck out five and walked two.
