The Niles cross country teams continued to show they are going to be a force to be dealt with this fall.
The Vikings boys and girls teams both finished second at the Three Rivers Big Hill Invitational Tuesday.
Senior Devin Tomlinson of Niles made it two-for-two in invitational victories as he took first place in the boys race.
Tomlinson posted a time of 17:51 to easily defeat runner-up Garrett Bailey of Marshall who posted a time of 18:33.
Marshall took home the team championship as it had five runners in the top 10 to finish with 32 points.
The Vikings, who had three runners in the top five, finished second with 56 points. Mendon was a distant third with 99 points.
The Niles girls team also finished second behind Marshall.
Kaylee Thompson led the Vikings with a second-place finish and a time of 22:27.
“There were nine teams that participated,” Niles coach Jami Foster said. “We did not have any girls PR last night as I believe it’s one of the toughest courses in Southwest Michigan. However, the girls ran tough races.”
The Vikings are back in action Saturday as they compete in the Battle Creek Harper Creek Optimist Invitational.
