MIDDLEVILLE — The Lakeshore boys basketball team has lost just four games over the last two seasons.
Lakeshore ended the season with a 24-3 record.
Tuesday night, the Lancers were eliminated from the state tournament by Wyoming Godwin Heights 56-52 in the Class B quarterfinals at Middleville-Thornapple Kellogg High School.
Lakeshore bows out of the tournament with a 24-1 record. The Lancers are 48-4 over the last two seasons.
Godwin Heights was able to grab an early lead and stay ahead of Lakeshore.
The Lancers trailed 14-10 after one, but cut the Godwin Heights’ lead to 25-22 by halftime.
Godwin Heights outscored Lakeshore 13-12 in the third quarter and took a 38-34 into the final quarter.
The Lancers were able to cut the lead to 50-48 with 1:18 left as Harold Wiggins connected on both free throws, but five unanswered points by Godwin Heights sealed the verdict for Lakeshore.
Keith Brushwyler and Wiggins both finished with 21 points, while Michael Welch added 10 for the Lancers.
Godwin Heights (23-2) will face Detroit Community, who defeated Jackson Lumen Christi 50-47, in the semifinals Friday at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
