Dowagiac remains undefeated in the WestPublished 11:15pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013
THREE RIVERS — Visiting Dowagiac remained undefeated in the Wolverine Conference West Division with a 78-64 victory over Three Rivers in a make-up game Tuesday night.
The No. 3-ranked Chieftains are now 11-1 overall and 6-0 in West Division play.
On a night when things just didn’t mesh offensively and defensively for the Chieftains, Dowagiac was still able to come away with a victory.
“We were very inconsistent tonight,” Dowagiac coach Danum Hunt said. “We were flat defensively. We would make runs and then a lack of defense would let them back in the game. We didn’t shoot the ball well from the outside tonight. It was an ungly win, but we’ll take it.”
Dontel Highsmith, the area’s leading scorer, had a game-high 28 points before fouling out. Davion Highsmith added 17 points and Kyle Solloway 16.
The Dowagiac girls basketball team was no match for the Wildcats in the opening game of the doubleheader as it was defeated by Three Rivers 64-16.
Dowagiac trailed 20-9 after one quarter and never recovered against the Wildcats.
Three Rivers opened up a 35-14 halftime advantage and then outscored the Chieftains 29-2 in the second half.
Crieona Rodgers had half of Dowagiac’s points with eight. Rayven Brown finished with five points.
Three Rivers’ Teagan Reeves scored a game-high 27 points.
