Harvey LeRoy Phillips, 78, of Niles, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Silverbrook Manor in Niles.

Harvey was born to Leonard T. & Sylvia Belle Phillips in Neligh, N.E. on Sept. 28, 1934. He grew up in Republic, Mich., and moved to the Niles area in the late 1960s.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Larry; and sister-in-law, Nancy.

He is survived by brothers, Windell (Bettie), Ronald (Loretta) Phillips; and several nieces & nephews.

He retired from Toefco Engineering in Niles, and he also worked at Buchanan Steel and Jack Post in Buchanan. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, model trains and music.  At one time, he had an elaborate set up for his trains. He was a very good guitarist and in his younger years played in a band. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Niles.

Memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Baptist Church or Southern Care Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at Hoven Funeral Home, Inc. in Buchanan, Mich., with visitation one hour before the service in the funeral home. Pastor Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church will be officiating the service.  Burial will take place in Republic Cemetery in Republic, Mich.
