Janet Joyce Hostetler Tarnow-Brock, 73, of Buchanan, passed away on Nov. 11, 2012, at her home in Buchanan.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1939, in Mill Creek, Ind., to Cecil and Macaria Hostetler. She was a 1958 graduate of Mill Creek High School. In 1959, she married David Tarnow of Mill Creek. He preceded her in death in 1970. She served as secretary/treasurerand “chief hugger” at Olive Elementary School in New Carlisle, Ind., from 1972  to 1989. In 1988, she married Willis Brock Sr., in Hudson Lake, Ind. She was a member of Fairland Christian Church in Niles and owner of Brock’s Fine Jewelry. Jan enjoyed gardening, art and music. But above all, Jan embraced all children as her own. Her laughter was always reminiscent of childhood. With God by her side, Jan bravely faced the challenge of raising her children on her own, and she exhibited the same courageous spirit when battling Alzheimer’s.

Surviving family include her husband, Willis Brock Sr., of Buchanan; son, Matthew Tarnow, of South Bend; daughter, Shari Tarnow-Schippers of Auburn, Ind.; stepsons, Willis Brock Jr., of Dowagiac, Steven Brock, of Niles, and Brian Brock, of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Vicki Brock, of Niles; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Hicks, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Georgia Stutzman, of Mill Creek, Ind.; a stepbrother, David Wilson of Mill Creek, Ind.; and stepsisters, Betty Hooten of Mill Creek, Ind., and Nancy Ashcraft, of Indianapolis, Ind.

Preceding her in death are her parents and stepmother, Louise Wilson-Hostetler; her first husband, David Tarnow; a stepson, Michael Minix; and a brother, Calvin Hostetler.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. at Fairland Christian Church, 1811 River Bluff Rd. in Niles, with Song Evangelist Art Bush officiating. A memorial visitation time with be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the church.
