Joyce Koons, 82

Joyce Louise Sherwood Koons, 82, of Greenville, S.C., wife of Darell Koons, went home to be with her Savior on Oct. 16, 2012, following an extended illness.

Born in Dowagiac to Walter and Flossie Metz Sherwood. Joyce moved in 1955 to Greenville, where she and her husband began their long careers at Bob Jones University.  Over the years, Joyce ministered in the BJU Child Development Center, music library and the maintenance department. She was a loving mother, grandmother and dedicated wife for more than 58 years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her five children, 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Sandy (Furman) Hendrix of Anderson, S.C.; John (Renee) Koons of Gray Court, S.C.; Shery (Jim) Borenstein of Greenville, S.C.; Susan (George) Fleck of Cumming, Ga.; Mark (Jennifer) Koons of Greenville, SC. Joyce is also survived by one sister, Margaret Blighton (Floyd) of Woodruff, S.C., and a sister-in-law, Doris Elston (Harold) of Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at Trinity Bible Church, Greer, S.C., on Friday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. Pastor Greg Mazak presiding, with visitation prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. with burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
