Michael A. Smith, 57, of Dowagiac, passed away at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012.

Mike’s life began Oct. 1, 1955, in Saginaw, the son of Russell and Edwina (Rhoads) Smith. He married Deborah Kurzhal on Oct. 12, 1974, in South Bend. Mike was very close to his family and he will be dearly missed. He really enjoyed hunting and fishing. His loving family includes his wife, Deborah Smith; daughters, Amber and Nicole Smith; brother and sister, Edward Smith and Doris Freshly, both of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Nielson.

His family will gather with friends Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Yazel & Clark Chapel from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Kasper officiating.
