Gerald L. Smith, 70, of Dowagiac, passed away at his home Friday, July 6, 2012.
Gerald’s life began on Oct. 15, 1941, in Dowagiac, the son of Virgil and Angela (Pataskovich) Smith.
He is a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and was employed by Jessco and Ameriwood Industries. Gerald was a member of the Dowagiac Moose Lodge. His loving family includes his daughter, Sheri McElheny, of Cassopolis; and son, Jerry (Stevi) Smith, of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Holly and Brandee Smith and Ashley and Amanda McElheny; great-grandchildren, Justin Jensen and Emmaleigh Vernon; sisters, Patricia (Ollie) Shaer, of Dowagiac, and Kathy (Roger) Williamson, of Arkansas; brothers, Richard (Doris) Smith, of Dowagiac, and Don Smith, of Dowagiac; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Marilyn Wilson and Robert Smith. His family will gather for a memorial service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Yazel & Clark Chapel, led by Pastor Jon DenHouter.
