Thanks are in order to the Niles Daily Star and its readers for taking the time to vote for the Niles Community Gardens at www.deloachcommunitygardens.com. My first letter to the editor about this contest was published in the Star’s online edition on June 6, and I am thrilled to report that as of this writing (June 10), Niles has surged into first place! Such is the power of the press, community and social networking!

There are more than 1,700 of us from around the country on the Facebook social networking site, “If You Grew Up In Niles,” who have made it our top priority to vote daily, post the link on our personal home pages, email our friends and relatives who are not on Facebook and spread the word to anyone who will listen!

It is not wise, however, to rest on our laurels; the Ohio group is certainly a formidable competitor. For those who have been voting for the Niles Community Gardens, thank you, and please continue to do so, daily until Aug. 6.

If you have not supported the Niles gardens with your vote yet, please consider doing so. The entire Niles community will benefit from our efforts!
