A prime parking spot for the Bring It Summer Cruise-In series in Niles will be up for grabs this weekend.

The Bring It Supercar Club will be auctioning off the spot at its monthly Gearhead Breakfast series meeting Saturday at The Kar Club, 109 N. Third St.

The Kar Club co-owner Marc Milhander said the spot would be located on Main Street near Olfactory Hue Bistro or Veni’s Sweet Shop. The music stage will be set up nearby, giving the winner of the parking spot high visibility during cruise-in events.

“That spot will put you right in the middle of the action,” Milhander said.

Twelve cruise-ins/car shows are scheduled to run  6:30 to 9:30 p.m. every Wednesday from June 6 to Aug. 29 on Main Street in downtown Niles.

Each event will have a featured marquee and either a band or DJ. Red Hot Voodoo is the opening act June 6.

Niles High School automotive teacher Gary Kind will be at Saturday’s Gearhead Breakfast speaking about the school’s Hot Rodders of Tomorrow team. The team competes by disassembling and reassembling a small block Chevrolet 350 engine outfitted with high-performance parts.

The team will be competing for prizes and scholarships at a regional Hot Rodders of Tomorrow event on Memorial Day in Watervliet. The winner will advance to a national competition in Las Vegas later this year.

Niles has been competing in Hot Rodders of Tomorrow for the past four years.

“The competition is great because the kids can put it on their resume and meet some people in the industry,” Kind said. “There’s also a lot of scholarship money available.”

The Gearheads Breakfast will also feature a discussion about the recent passing of motorsports legend Carroll Shelby.
