Karl Kaidan / July 18, 1947 – Oct. 21, 2009

Karl LeRoy Kaidan, 62, of Niles passed away early Wednesday after an extended illness, at home, surrounded by his family.

Born July 18, 1947 in Tecumseh, Mich. to Henry and Mae (Hawkins) Kaidan, Karl enjoyed fishing and music.  He enjoyed working with his hands, building anything from homes to race cars with skill and pride.  Karl was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and his generosity was known to all who knew him.

Karl also served his country with distinction; as a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Vietnam War, he earned a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and numerous other honors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Kaidan, and twin sons, Mark and David Kaidan.

Karl is survived by his wife, Trudy (Hardy) Kaidan of Niles; mother, Mae Hawkins, of Hudson, Fla.; a son, David Kaidan, of Niles; daughters, Kelly (Steve) Ray, of Niles, Christine (Michael) Timm, of Niles, and Danielle (David) Sabath, of Buchanan; grandchildren, Travis and Brooke Timm; and a brother, Mark Kaidan of Michigan.
In keeping with Karl’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. in Mission Hills Memorial Chapel with a visitation beginning at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice care center of one’s choice.
