Dowagiac SCORES: City, small business counselors want to help you succeed at Oct. 13 workshop
Published 9:23am Thursday, October 1, 2009The City of Dowagiac and SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business, are teaming up to present an informational workshop for entrepreneurs interested in starting their own business and for current business owners looking for a competitive edge in a tough economy.
The workshop will take place Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Dowagiac City Hall, 241 S. Front St., in the council chamber at 7 p.m.

In conjunction with the State of Michigan, the city offers a variety of tax incentives and tax abatements to qualifying businesses.
Whether you want to start or grow your business, SCORE workshops are a valuable way to learn more about doing business and a convenient forum for networking with other business professionals.
SCORE matches volunteer business-management counselors with present and prospective small business owners in need of expert advice.
In addition to free face-to-face counseling, SCORE offers free and low-cost workshops and seminars for both start-up and in-business entrepreneurs. Workshops and seminars are open to all U.S. citizens over the age of 13.
Workshop topics include writing a business plan, doing a feasibility study, starting a business, financing a business, home-based business startup and surviving the recession.
Workshops also offer an opportunity to interact with other local small business owners. Many workshop presenters are practicing professionals, including accountants, lawyers, bankers and business managers from diverse businesses and industries. Other facilitators are SCORE counselors who have years of industry and business experience.
