JV volleyball team falls in quarterfinals
Published 8:49am Monday, August 24, 2009COLOMA – Bridgman ousted The Dowagiac junior varsity volleyball team from the Coloma Early Bird Invitational on Friday in the quarterfinals.
The Lady Bees defeated the Chieftains in three sets, 21-23, 21-13 and 15-11.
Dowagiac finished in sixth play after going 4-2 in pool play, which was good for second place behind Gull Lake.
In pool play, the Chieftains defeated Berrien Springs 21-8, 16-12; split with Gull Lake 21-19, 21-23; and swept River Valley 21-16, 21-13.
Carly Polomcak led Dowagiac with 32 points, while Rylie Cox had 30 points and Abby Gnatz 26 points. Shelby Bruens and Kelsie Primley both finished with 25 points.
Erin Stanton (11), Jessica Holmes (10) and Erica Greenwood (7) rounded out the scoring for Dowagiac.
Polomcak and Primley led the team in hitting with 12 kills.
Stevie Witwer and Bruens led the team in assists.
