Chieftains’ return to tennis court comes up short
Published 10:20pm Monday, August 24, 2009SOUTH HAVEN – The return to the court for the Dowagiac tennis team didn’t have the result the Chieftains desired, but they were competitive.
Dowagiac took to the tennis court on Monday afternoon for the first time since it qualified for the state finals in 2007.
Due to a lack of players, the Chieftains were forced to cancel the 2008 season.
Dowagiac was back on Monday, but dropped a 5-3 Wolverine Conference decision to host South Haven.
Picking up wins for the Chieftains were No. 2 and No. 4 singles players Chris Craft and Joseph Gajewski, along with the No. 1 doubles team of Aaron Blaske and Mike McClenahan.
Craft defeated Danny Stein 6-2 and 6-1. Gajewski defeated Zach Hoyt 6-3 and 6-3.
Blaske and McClenahan defeated Mike Pfaff and Nate Overholser.
